The American Dream

“Unless you are networking, you will soon be not working.”

Spoken in 2007 at an Australian convention, Dr. Denise Waitely’s words seem prescient and timely for 2010. There is a deliberate deception about the true unemployment rate just as there has been a deception about the true costs of recent American wars, which run into the double-digit trillions when society rebuilding in several countries and long-term health care for returning veterans is factored in.

The signs that have been on the wall for the past few years are coming down from corporate America and being put on the front door of millions of American homes. Where one economic sector is posting Closed for Business the home entrepreneur is boasting their Open for Business sign. Driving around our city I see the for sale and for lease signs on medium to large retail spaces continue to increase. The mall shops are increasingly being filled by local small businesses versus the usual national retail outlets.

Why are some saying the greatest decade in American history is in front of us while others are predicting economic stagnation for years to come? Who do you believe?

Health and wellness is the only sector that showed substantial growth during the bust years of 2008 and 2009. Fueled by the independent entrepreneur and the small business owner and driven by that age old trend, the baby boomer. What’s on the minds of the 76 million adults born between 1946 and 1964?

Boomers are driven by the desire to maintain their financial health and their physical health. The waiora, seeking the fountain of youth, and, after this latest scare, seeking out more security in the nest egg is occupying the mind of boomers. Lately, there has been a run on the purchase of silver and gold because, as a marketing savant recently said, “The government can’t print more silver and gold.”

The trend of cutting marketing costs, distribution costs, fixed overhead costs, and labor costs will accelerate as manufacturers continue to drive products to the consumer in the most efficient manner possible, which is through the Internet and direct sales. The adherents and campaigners for a network marketing business model have gained access to the board rooms of corporate America. And there is a hunger to be free of the old ball and chain if the future and the “contract of trust” are unreliable.

Will network marketing create more millionaires than the real estate boom and bust, the dot com bubble, the savings and loans fiasco, the junk bond debacle, the sub-prime loan schemes and all the other ponzi games combined? I think so. 20,000 people every day sign up for a network marketing business. And I think our industry can do it with more integrity. We have to. We owe it to the American Dream.

Limiting Beliefs vs Taking Action

The fact that people think about limiting beliefs is exactly the problem. It is the heart and the heart’s desires that set up the conflict because then the mind begins a comparison and contrast process of what is possible and what is impossible as the heart keeps pounding away about the desires.

Limiting beliefs are tightly connected to fears and as we already learned the best way to deal with the fears is to take action. Mostly those limiting beliefs exist at the beginning of the venture where the mountain appears tallest. I want to share a short training John Haremza did about taking action. John created a 14 minute CD to introduce the business.

The central theme of this training is to not answer questions. The following are several variations of the introductory call or face-to-face meeting to get someone to listen to the CD.

Renegade University - Click by click training on everything Internet Network Marketing

Just between you and I, How are things going?
I think I may have something that may help.
Would you trust me with 14 minutes of your time?

I just got introduced to something I’m extremely excited about.
I’m not sure you would be interested, but I want to make sure.
Would you trust me with 14 minutes of your time?

I’m working with a group of medical and business professionals.
I’m looking for some like-minded people.
Would you trust me with 14 minutes of your time?

Have you ever thought about doing something different?
I might have something for you.
Would you trust me with 14 minutes of your time?

So, how do you maintain your posture when your potential associate wants to know what it is about? Resist answering questions with three possible replies.

1.I value your time as much as mine - Would you trust me with 14 minutes of your time?

2.If we’re going to get into it I need to schedule an hour or more of your time -Would you trust me with 14 minutes of your time?

3.I don’t think this is for you. Thank you for your time.

In this manner you are not going down the path of persuasion and you can open the door of interest. The additional benefit of this is that the next step is a three-way phone call with your upline and the potential associate is likely thinking “This seems pretty easy – I probably can do this.”

Life has plenty of distractions. Television, social networking online, music, hobbies, exercise, play time, family time, time with friends, and creating an income.

The key to managing all these distractions is to focus on the activities that will provide the result of growing your business. The key to your success is cutting out many of the activities in your life until your can put your business on partial auto-pilot. Until you are earning the income that buys back your time whereupon you move steadily towards financial freedom. The kind of freedom that most people will never realize.

In network marketing nothing is more important to the success of your business than other people. Adding two new people to your list every day is the standard in this industry. According to Eric Worre, co-founder of the motivational television channel The People’s Network, one exposure a day will not create the momentum you need to launch your business while three a day is beyond the consistent effort of most people.

With Sunday being your day of rest, tracking your 12 exposures each week will then generate lots of follow up activity with people who want to learn more. In a month you will have contacted 50 new people.

When five people sign up with your business you will now have 250 new exposures happening in your business. With ten new people you will have 500 new exposures in your business. This assumes that you create duplication in your business. With ten leaders following the system you will have 6,000 people that year learning about your home business opportunity.

I dare say that when you generate that kind of activity there will be a lot more happening in your business than the numbers quoted above. John Haremza, Master Distributor for Waiora, gives the same example differently. John explains that most people work on the concept of linear income. That’s where you exchange your time and labor for a set income per hour or monthly salary. Most people work for linear income.

The drawback of linear income is that if you stop working, you stop getting paid. Business owners and corporations earn leveraged income from the efforts of the linear income earners. There is greater risk of loss and greater potential for wealth. But corporate and small business owners seldom see the light of day as they go to work early and come home late, often missing the years of their children growing up.

Residual income is getting paid repeatedly for work completed once. Network marketers who create a team of entrepreneurs earn leveraged income and residual income. Imagine the power of having a team of people helping you pay your bills and generating a retirement income.

If you put in an hour a day into your business you will have seven hours a week. No rest in this example because you’re going to the top. Over time three people join you who in turn find three people each to join them. When those nine people put in their hour each day and find 27 people to join them to make a difference in their lives.

Now there are 40 people spending an hour each day working on your business and theirs. You have a full 40 hour work week going into your business in a single day. Expand that to what we call the 5x5x5 Rocket Ride. Imagine having 125 hours of activity working below you each day.

Then your business is launched. Momentum is created. An object set in motion is easier to keep in motion as it releases from the friction of the runway and the gravity of earth. John says, “The growth magnifies and multiplies your efforts.” It takes you to cruising altitude.

If you truly believed and understood that this residual and leveraged income has been accomplished by hundreds of thousands in the network marketing industry, where people you would consider your self better than are earning six-figure incomes, you would say no to people and activities that steal your time, stop reading non-essential emails and other Internet activities, and commit yourself to the daily activity of producing the one result that is going to launch your business.

Asking two people a day to look at something that could change their life.

Sherman Unkefer at 70

Sherman Unkefer took his dream and went traveling. Although earning a living full time network marketing, for eighteen years Mr Unkefer never accomplished what he has accomplished in the past seven years. Self-defeating behaviors co-existed with his dream.

What is interesting about Sherman Unkefer traveling to a city in another state one week out of every month is that he had to have a reason to do that traveling. Sherman first had to have a belief in the outcomes. Certainly he had demonstrated what is possible. He had to establish an inner circle of at least one other person who was a leader; someone who would take ownership of their business.

Sherman had a vision and someone else shared that vision. Their belief was enough for others to get involved in the business with them. Backed by a great company with great products they could communicate their vision to others through an organizational chart and a compensation plan. That’s about it. Why make it any more difficult?

Once again the message is that Meetings Make Money.

This is how he started every conversation with a new prospect.

This may be the most important financial information you are ever going to encounter in your life. The gentleman you are going to hear from is a partner of mine. I have just a handful of these available. I have a lot of people who want to hear it. Will you make a commitment to listen to it in the 24 to 48 hours. When can we get together again.

How To Create Loyal Customers and Distributors

We all know that a network marketing product has to provide high value in the marketplace in order to be legitimate and acceptable to consumers, meaning that it needs to be a product people would normally purchase at the price being offered to the consumer. According to Michael Dlhouy, industry trainer, you must “Choose products that make a difference for you and the people you love.”

We know that we the network marketers provide high value to the companies we work with because their product is brought to market faster than any other distribution method and the product doesn’t risk getting lost amongst the dozens of other products on retail shelves.

The value of the network marketer to the consumer needs to be of equally high value. What people are buying is you and the value of you. One of the greatest anxieties of a consumer is making a bad decision. They don’t want to make a bad decision about you. Once a person decides they like you, they place their trust in you and the information you are sharing with them.

Our company had a great training call yesterday on turning a cold call into a warm lead. The first part of the call emphasized the importance of looking for people who are like you with similar backgrounds, experiences, and lifestyles. It is easier to find common ground of human relationships. The second half of the call related to the concept that people buy from people they know, like and trust. People want to know that your business exists to serve them.

Leading with the heart and asking naturally curious questions will help you continue the relationship after the initial meet and greet. It is the connector that will bridge you over to a connection. As the conversation develops you will be able to determine if there is a need or problem that exists. You can offer solutions that may not even be your solution.

Giving them the attention and respect they deserve and crave will create a loyal customer you can return to over time. They see you as a trusted friend whom they would love to refer their friends to. Simply put, this is the Win Friends and Influence People principle.

So often people think the primary motivating force of people is pleasure or pain. The discovery process for these types of sales people is to find the hot button and push it until the client whips out their wallet in search of relief. Modern consumers are aware of the warfare tactics that they are assaulted with and won’t be easily persuaded.

Have you ever purchased a car where they bring out the closer, the heavy hitter, after the first salesperson is unable to get your signature on paper? Stuck in a little room with the interrogation light in your face you answer a series of questions that you agree to and later regret. Is it any wonder car sales gets a reputation like network marketing? It may be an unfair stereotype, but it is unfair for a reason.

The primary motivating force in people is love. Your concern for a person will be reciprocated. I like the quote by George M. Adams who says “There are high spots in all of our lives and most of them have come about through encouragement from someone else. I don't care how great, how famous or successful a man or woman may be, each hungers for applause.”

I don’t think the mentality of guerrilla warfare and seeing the potential client as an adversary to be taken down is the correct approach for direct sales. Your not in a sales business, you are in a relationship business. Once you establish a relationship, trust, then anything is possible.

Building For Events - The Most Important Activity

The Meeting

Previously we learned that the one skill or activity that is paramount over all others is building towards events. Why is that? Why do they say that Meetings Make Money? Is it true that nothing is more critical to the long-term success of the network marketing business than meetings?

Thinking again about the previous videos I realize that meetings will determine who is committed to their own success and who is not. Meetings will help you define your inner circle because you want to work with people who show up; people you can count on to do the thing they said they were going to do. Meetings are a training ground for leadership.

Meetings empower people. When a team works together towards a common goal it motivates everyone to make a little extra effort. People take pride and ownership of their business in their desire to be attractive to successful people. Success motivates success.
Meetings are a business activity and no business person engages in activities that are not profitable. Meetings make money. How is that possible?

The Prospect

Meetings are a communications tool. They are a place where information and influence are exchanged. After hearing about the great company and people in the company the potential business partner comes to the meeting to look into the eyes of the local leadership and press the flesh. The meeting becomes the place where you earn the respect and admiration of your prospect.

The environment of the event will help a potential prospect determine that this is group of individuals they want to spend time with. Just as you qualified them in the beginning of your relationship as someone worth spending your time to recruit, the prospect is in turn qualifying the opportunity, the company, and the people involved as worthy of their time. Not only do meetings create believability, meetings create trust.

Meetings produce results. When a great presenter takes the stage they become the expert. They become the authority who breaks down the barriers of skepticism. In a short period of time a complete overview of everything you have wanted to throw up on your prospect can be given in such a manner that the decision to say no would seem like a bad decision. Providing there is a truly worthwhile company and products behind the message, a great presenter will motivate your prospects to take action. That’s when we can say with surety – Meetings Make Money!

To be great at something you first have to be good at it. To be good at something you first have to be bad at it.
To be bad at something you first have to be AT IT!

First Goal - Get Your Team Together

After the 2010 Bowl Championship Series final between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Texas Longhorns the ESPN interviewer asked Colt McCoy, the Texas quarterback who was sidelined early in the game due to an injury, “What was it like for you to watch the game, your last game in a Longhorn uniform, from the sideline.”

His emotion-filled reply was, “I love this game. I have a passion for this game. I’ve done everything I can to contribute to my team. We made it this far. It’s unfortunate I didn’t get to play. I’d have given everything I had to be out there with my team.”

Just like the game of life or network marketing you need a team. You are not even really in the game until you get your team together. Choose your coaches and trainers wisely. Pre-season you can learn the game plan and practice your plays so that when you step out into the lights your ready for the hard knocks. Once you’re in the game your team will help you move the ball down the field, get into the red zone, and score income touchdowns.

Your first efforts in network marketing are to create two levels of an inner circle group. The 5 or 6 that you work closely with who in turn each have 5 or 6 with whom they work closely with. Approximately 25-36 people in total. Your first job is to make a special effort to be surrounded by the right people, this is your inner team.

Surrounded with like-minded people all working towards a common goal will create a lot of enthusiasm and fun. “Have fun, but get it done.” Your business will start to grow dramatically without your personal effort. At that time you can work more on your business rather than in the business creating systems and events. And traveling. Team work makes the dream work!

You will love working from home helping other people achieve their goals. That’s when you find your self saying, after all the hard work pays off, “I love this game. I have a passion for this game. I'm doing everything I can to contribute to my team.”

Or you could be sitting on the sidelines saying, “I made it this far. It’s unfortunate I didn’t get to play. I’d have given everything I had to be out there with my team.”

This is not an attempt to diminish anyone's effort. Everyone has experienced well-intentioned attempts and learning lessons. There are no failures. You take what you learned and start again. And each time the results get better until… YES!

This is meant to encourage everyone to make their best effort. There are no losers when you put forth your best effort.

To be great at something you first have to be good at it. To be good at something you first have to be bad at it.
To be bad at something you first have to be AT IT!

Getting Close and Staying Close to the Fire

The Importance of Personal Development

The road to success lies between the ears. And in the chest. And in a willingness to do the thing that others are unwilling to do. The Tin Man needed a brain, the Scarecrow needed a heart and the Lion needed courage. Seldom, if ever, does anyone accomplish anything unless they believe in the possibility. Seeing, tasting touching our desires is not enough. Seldom, unless by mistake, does anyone accomplish anything of value unless they are capable of giving service to another. Love thy neighbor does have a place in a network marketing business. Seldom, unless by chance, does a person’s life change unless they are capable of change.

In any career personal development is going to make you more employable. Having the knowledge and skills of communication and critical thinking make you an asset to the team. Character that dresses well deserves a promotion.

Words are a funny thing. They travel on a sound vibration, but the sound of itself carries little meaning. When words enter our head a change happens as we ascribe meaning and value and experience to their interpretation. The coach is a master of creating a Yellow Brick Road with words. All of the sudden you feel like you’ve been shown the way. Darkness becomes light. Gandhi said, “The truth speaks to us all.”

The purpose of a coach is to make us aware of ourselves. To awaken that greater purpose for which we came into this life. The purpose of a coach is to give us a vision of our greatness. In network marketing a leader often has to hold the knowledge of what is possible until the recruit can get that knowledge in their heart. Not the head, the heart. In network marketing many products are created to change lives; to provide a solution to a health problem or social concern. Until you witness the change in another persons life, you won’t have the fire. All is vanity if the heart be not moved

Have you ever noticed that advertising is promoting something you can have other than the product. Different auto commercials may sell sex or muscle or speed or self-esteem that the viewer is expected to associate with the car or truck. Food commercials like milk, ice cream, or beer use humor to divert your attention. This entire pretense that the material world is going to fulfill our desires and create a better life for us is found everywhere when you are looking outward. It exists in network marketing; products that exist for the financial opportunity. And they are quite capable of putting an emotional spin on the product. It’s called the story. Everyone needs one. You just have to be careful about truth and value in the marketplace. You have to bring truth and value to the marketplace.

What’s the point? The most important development you will ever be involved in is your own life. Selling anything is transference of belief; transference of excitement. If you don’t have a strong enough belief about the network marketing industry or the opportunity you have chosen, then you need to stay close to the fire until you uncover your own secret power. Stay close to the fire and passion of a great mentor. He/she will give you courage enough until you have courage of your own.

Then you are the Wizard of Oz with the curtain down.

To be great at something you first have to be good at it. To be good at something you first have to be bad at it.
To be bad at something you first have to be AT IT!

If I Did What I Had To Do

The following is a synopsis of an interview with Eric Worre and Dan Catto. The discussion centered around traditional network marketing methods such as:
  • Sharing with your family and friends - the warm market
  • Prospecting your list of professional people and acquaintances
  • Using the 3-foot Rule to create a relationship with people you meet
  • Working the phone on a regular basis
  • Attending all meetings and events, locally and nationally
  • Committing to being here two years from now

If I Did What I Had To Do
If I did what I had to do For a Few Years I will be in a position to do Whatever I Want to do for the Rest of My Life.

The Time-tested Fundamentals are always the same:
  • Have a Burning Desire
  • Establish a consistent Work Ethic
  • Be Coachable - Be a Learning Maven

Make a Special Effort to surround your self with the Right People.

Too often we spend too much time with the wrong people. You are a busy person and people need to qualify themselves in order to spend time with you.
    • Are they as motivated as you are – do they have a Burning Desire?
    • Are they doing something Every Day -Are they taking the Right Actions?
    • Do they just need some guidance and coarse correction – Are they Learning?

You can be a giant if you’re a dwarf if you’re standing on a giant’s shoulders. Meaning, if you haven’t got a Vision for your Self, borrow someone else’s Vision. Giants have Big Visions and Big Dreams.

Rid your self of your corporate habits and belief systems.

Keep it simple. Stick to the fundamentals and duplicate. Rinse and repeat.
      Two core Fundamentals are:
      • Get the Product out to as many people as you can.
      • Get as many people as you can to review the Opportunity.
      •
      Don’t Quit. Never Give Up.

      • Make a List and add two people every day to the List
      • Contact and Invite your List to review the Opportunity
      • Present the Opportunity and Ask Questions. Ask for the Sale
      • Create additional Exposures and always Follow-up
      • Get Prospects to Events for Social Proof
If you are unable to Retail, Recruit, Train, or Present – the one skill to develop then is to become a World Class Promoter by doing these two things:
      • Get people in front of the Opportunity
      • Get people to try the Products.
Promote the Results, not the ingredients.
      Provide a Demonstration, not information.
Ask people to take The Next Step.
Leverage the Team, the Presenters, and the Opportunity.
Today we can leverage Internet resources.

      Pay The Price

Traditionally, Paying the Price meant 3-5 years of getting it wrong until you Get It Right.
Or 3-5 years of Consistent Effort until other Leadership built their business strong.
Today that time frame can be just a year or two if you are doing ALL the Fundamentals and use Leverage. Develop Leaders.
Don’t take the Opportunity for granted. Don’t wait for the perfect time. Don’t wait for your own “9-11” meltdown before you take action.
Traditional business is downsizing white-collar America. Many corporate Americans haven’t earned a Six-figure Income as we see in this industry let alone a Six-figure Monthly Income. Go to the Events. Meet the Six-figure Diamonds and Learn to Shine.

A Small Price To Pay For Freedom

You have made a decision to make change; to create a New Life. Why?

For most people it is because we want to get paid for what we are worth. And we want to be the ones to decide what we are worth. There is little upward movement when someone else tells you what you are worth and is controlling the paycheck. You are worth what the marketplace determines you are worth and there is little arguing about that fact.

Yet you feel that you are worth more. You feel that your efforts should translate into more free time, a better life for you and your family, and the ability to do what you want, when you want, without checking in with someone to see if it is OK.

Most people don't believe in the possibility of change. There is safety in receiving a check on a regular basis. There is security in saving for retirement. And who wants to miss their favorite television shows.Thank goodness for the DVR:)

This blog is about making change. It is about taking a risk that YOU CAN create a business of sufficient enough value that you gain control of your time and income. This is an informal conversation about greatness!

Because, you see, I do think you are great. Often in our industry the support team needs to believe in the greatness of the person until they catch the vision of their own personal greatness. As Mary Morrisey says, "Regardless of your history, regardless of anything in your life - who you are is a Great Being. Created by a Universe that is great itself. That Greatness is seated in you and calling you right now into greater expression of the dynamic being who you are!"

As Gandhi said, "The voice of truth speaks to everyone of us." That voice speaks to you.

This is a place to find your Greatness. You will find in the Network Marketing industry the highest quality of individuals who, as Eric Worre says, "Know that we have a better way of Life."

Most people never make a six figure income. In this business you will meet many people making that every month. That's not Internet braggadocio. There are two in my upline of seven people who earn that kind of income and two more that will be there shortly. Followed by two people who are half way there and me.
That is very exciting. See the team @ My Network Marketing Team

You'll learn to not be concerned about which way the wind is blowing because, as every sailor knows, you can get to where you want to go if you got some wind. One or two years of paying the price in this industry results in a lifetime of freedom. And you can get started on a part-time basis. Some people think that network marketing, like being a small business owner, is a tough gig. Well, no sailor learned to sail their boat in calm waters. And entering the port of destination is such a wonderful feeling!

A few years is a small price to pay for forever freedom.

To be great at something you first have to be good at it. To be good at something you first have to be bad at it.
To be bad at something you first have to be AT IT!
