After the 2010 Bowl Championship Series final between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Texas Longhorns the ESPN interviewer asked Colt McCoy, the Texas quarterback who was sidelined early in the game due to an injury, “What was it like for you to watch the game, your last game in a Longhorn uniform, from the sideline.”
His emotion-filled reply was, “I love this game. I have a passion for this game. I’ve done everything I can to contribute to my team. We made it this far. It’s unfortunate I didn’t get to play. I’d have given everything I had to be out there with my team.”
Just like the game of life or network marketing you need a team. You are not even really in the game until you get your team together. Choose your coaches and trainers wisely. Pre-season you can learn the game plan and practice your plays so that when you step out into the lights your ready for the hard knocks. Once you’re in the game your team will help you move the ball down the field, get into the red zone, and score income touchdowns.
Your first efforts in network marketing are to create two levels of an inner circle group. The 5 or 6 that you work closely with who in turn each have 5 or 6 with whom they work closely with. Approximately 25-36 people in total. Your first job is to make a special effort to be surrounded by the right people, this is your inner team.
Surrounded with like-minded people all working towards a common goal will create a lot of enthusiasm and fun. “Have fun, but get it done.” Your business will start to grow dramatically without your personal effort. At that time you can work more on your business rather than in the business creating systems and events. And traveling. Team work makes the dream work!
You will love working from home helping other people achieve their goals. That’s when you find your self saying, after all the hard work pays off, “I love this game. I have a passion for this game. I'm doing everything I can to contribute to my team.”
Or you could be sitting on the sidelines saying, “I made it this far. It’s unfortunate I didn’t get to play. I’d have given everything I had to be out there with my team.”
This is not an attempt to diminish anyone's effort. Everyone has experienced well-intentioned attempts and learning lessons. There are no failures. You take what you learned and start again. And each time the results get better until… YES!
This is meant to encourage everyone to make their best effort. There are no losers when you put forth your best effort.
To be great at something you first have to be good at it. To be good at something you first have to be bad at it.
To be bad at something you first have to be AT IT!
